Daniel Nientiedt studierte Volkswirtschaftslehre mit den Schwerpunkten Ordnungs- und Wettbewerbsökonomik sowie Steuerrecht an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. Während seiner Dissertation an der Universität Freiburg war er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl von Professor Lars P. Feld, Forschungsreferent am Walter Eucken Institut und Research Fellow am Center for the History of Political Economy an der Duke University. Im Anschluss verbrachte er zwei Jahre als Postdoktorand am Department of Economics der New York University. Seit September 2022 ist er Forschungsgruppenleiter am Walter Eucken Institut.

Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich der Neuen Politischen Ökonomie und Ordnungsökonomik sowie der Geschichte des ökonomischen Denkens.
