Maximilian Langer studied economics and social sciences (B. Sc.) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and the University of Gadjah Mada in Indonesia. He then completed studies in environmental sciences (B. Sc.) and business administration (M. Sc.) at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg. There he wrote his master thesis on rebound effects with special reference to the New Political Economy and the economics of policy reforms at the Chair of Economic Policy and Constitutional Economic Theory.

After his studies in economics and social sciences, he first worked in an accounting firm. During his studies in Freiburg, he gained experience as a research assistant at the Institute of Geobotany as well as at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). At the ISE he wrote his bachelor thesis on unintended consequences of development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa as part of his studies in environmental sciences.

Maximilian Langer joined the Walter Eucken Institute as a research fellow in March 2023. His research interests lie in the fields of finance, new political economy, and environmental economics.
