Jan Berg studied history at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and at Trinity College Dublin (B.A.) before completing a Master’s degree in Comparative Modern History with a focus on economic history (M.A.) in Freiburg. In his master’s thesis, he examined West German economic policy in times of high inflation after the oil price shock of 1973/74. At the same time, he completed a degree in economics (B.Sc.) at the University of Freiburg.

Since September 2024, he has been a research fellow at the Walter Eucken Institute. His research focuses on the history of economic thought, the planned and wartime economy and the social market economy.
